Reflective Writing

I began today with making cut outs of black and dark blue card paper which would make up the centre part of the paper sculpture. I decided on adding black card as the very first layers of the water section, as I wanted it to create an illusion of behind really far down (darker) than the very last layer on top which will be light blue. I didn’t have a decided amount of layers I would create each section with, but I ended up with 5 layers which turned out to create enough height for this part.

As I go on with this project I think I will make more layers with the lighter colours than simply 5, to make imitations of water ripples and differences in height within the water.

I had faced a slight challenge however today, as creating the same exact shape multiple times meant that I had to trace the original shape before cutting them out. However, this still didn’t work out well as each time I would either end up cutting too much of the paper or leaving too much which changed the original shape. I tried out changing my craft knife to scissors to see if that would help, but it ended up being more difficult due to the curves and smaller sections needed to be cut out; scissors will be more useful for the later layers when the shapes are smaller and simpler.
