Reflective Writing

I carried on with the female depictions, however this time depicting a "loud" woman. This was specifically to challenge the stereotypical and traditional view of women being submissive, and not speaking their mind out loud in such a public manner. Loud women aren't seen as attractive, as when they are loud it means that they won't succumb to the 'power' which men believe they have over the opposing sex.

I found this image while researching and reading articles about the history of the feminist movement on this website which shows the past and present of feminism. I wanted an accurate depiction of a woman speaking up against injustice and oppression against all women.

Originally, I had designed the lino to include a white background with the design coming through with black ink. However, after the first lino I decided to keep the dark background instead as I don't tend to see many linos in this way as most are completed in the opposite way. It also meant that with the words being lighter draws attention much better, as it stands out against the black.

Compared to the previous lino, this one does not feature any accent colours. I did this both as a stylistic choice but also to resemble old propaganda posters, as they would be monochromatic for cheaper printing when doing large scale amounts. I also used a typewriter font for the text, to aid in that classic old style design, keeping it quite traditional which is almost ironic when the reasoning behind this series is the opposite of that.
